When making a website, the sole aim is to please those that will use it. For all of the many websites on the internet, the aim will be different for different target audiences. However there is one rule that should be present on every website: good usability.
Steve Krug has written a book titles 'Don't Make Me Think!: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability' which helps to design websites with the user in mind.
Every website should be easy to use and if it is, the consumers will love you as a web designer. If they have to search forever to find something on your website, you have failed in making a website with good usability.
I will have to keep this in mind when designing my website to make sure people of nearly all ages will be able to use it with ease.
