In any form of web code, there is always a head tag and a body tag.
These are fundamental parts of HTML code, and without them the code cannot be read.
The head tag basically houses all the bits of code that aren't going to be seen on a page, like meta tags, page titles, and some pieces of script. Styles are also put into the head tag when a CSS is not used.
The body tag includes all of the div tags, links, images, rollover button functions...
Basically everything that the website is.
W3Schools has some good pages on all the different types of tags, although I have covered the main information that they mentioned, so I won't link to the pages.
